The Washington Redskins drafted Texas DE Brian Orakpo in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft with their 13th pick.
Brian Orakpo is a 263 lb, 6'3″ DE from the Texas Longhorns. He was born July 31, 1986 in Houston, Texas. In his senior year at Texas, he was the Associated Press Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (best defensive player), Ted Hendricks Award (best DE) and the Lombardi Award (best lineman or linebacker). Brian was a former “Redskin” at Lamar High School in Houston and only seems fitting that he become a Redskin as a pro.

During Brian's first press conference as a Redskin, Jim Zorn described his “shock” when as the draft picks went by Orakpo still had not been picked. Zorn said that they just could not turn down the opportunity and jumped at the chance. One of the questions asked of Orakpo was his thoughts on playing the Cowboys. Brian let out a chuckle and then said that he “never was a Cowboys fan” since he was from Houston.
I cannot wait to see this guy and Haynesworth on the field together. Look out!
